Building Tips: Episode 1 – Brick Mosaics

So, you’ve got yourself one of our awesome brick mosaics, and now you’ve got all the fun of building your artwork! We tought it would be a good idea to share with you some tips, and ideas you can use during your build – feel free to feedback how well they worked for you, or if you have your very own top tips to share!

Tip 1: Get yourself a tasty beverage

Seems like a simple thing to mention, but when you get into your flow, you don’t want to be heading off to the kitchen to fetch refreshments

Tip 2: Flat Surface or Tray

Using a table or a tray to place your baseboard on whilst you build helps to get the bricks in place easier, and also, if you’re like us and you can be a little clumsy, the table or tray will help to reduce the amount of crawling around, looking for any missing bricks.

Tip 3: Cheat Sheet

It may not seem like its much help, but actually having the bricks in numbered rows and columns on the cheat sheet helps to ensure you’re putting the bricks in the right location. If of course you have slipped up, the brick pull we include in your mosaic kit is easy to use – simply apply to the brick(s) and push to remove. Bonus tip – Use a ruler or sheet of paper to cover over the next row / column on the cheat sheet so you can focus on the correct bricks.

Tip 4: Marker Bricks

Another method, using the cheat sheet, is to place down some “marker bricks” – using the numbered columns or rows, you can place 1 or 2 bricks in strategic places to ensure you’re on track when you get to that point. For example you could place some at halfway across or down if you feel this could help keep you on track.

Tip 5: Spare Bricks

You may notice when you ave completed your brick mosiac portrait, that you have a few extra bricks leftover – don’t worry, unlike a piece of flat pack furniture, you haven’t missed anything, these are included as spares as we are aware of the small nature of the bricks may make them difficult to find if dropped.

That’s the first set of tips we’ve collated for our brick mosaics – so if you’re reading this ahead of building your mosaic, let us know how these tips work for you, and don’t forget, for added fun you could photograph your progress as you build, and then when you put all the images together, you’ll get a stop motion type video of your build.

Don’t forget to share your images, either opening, building or finished portraits with our Facebook or Instagram accounts – we love to see your artworks brought to life!
